A spotlight of the homage to Godard, who died last year at 91, would be the world premiere of the 20-minute trailer he created for a movie that can by no means get made: ‘Drôles de Guerres (Phoney Wars).
The 20-minute work is billed as A Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello and Vixens manufacturing, in coproduction with L’Atelier.
“Jean-Luc Godard usually remodeled his synopses into aesthetic applications. Phoney Wars follows on this custom and can stay as the final word gesture of cinema,” stated the pageant.
It quoted the textual content that accompanies the brief work to offer a sign of the director’s intention. It reads: “Now not trusting the billions of diktats of the alphabet to offer again their freedom to the incessant metamorphoses and metaphors of a real language by returning to the locations of previous shootings whereas bearing in mind the current tales.”
The movie shall be screened within the presence of Godard’s longtime collaborator, the filmmaker Fabrice Aragno, who labored with the late director on Notre musique (2004), Movie Socialisme (2010), Les Trois Désastres (2013) and Goodbye to Language (2014).
The tribute may also characteristic a screening of a 4K restoration of Godard’s 1963 traditional Contempt and the documentary Godard by Godard.
Written by Frédéric Bonnaud and directed by Florence Platarets, the one-hour documentary is described as an archival self-portrait of Godard, retracing his life and filmography by way of his personal phrases, his gaze and his work.
